OTAVALO

 As one of Ecuador’s most prominent indigenous groups, the Otavaleños are internationally renowned for their textile industry and other hand-crafted goods. This community of craftsmen still holds strong to traditional customs, dress, and their native language, Quichua. Between the craft, animal, and food markets, this small town booms to life on market-day offering a colorful feast for the senses.

DAILY TOURS:

Saturdays and Wednesdays (market days)

Travel north on the Pan-American Highway
observing the beautiful scenary of Imbabura,
the province of the lakes
Visit the Eastern Equator monument
Stop in the small artesian town of Cayambe to
visit a biscocho factory, a typical pastry of the region
Visit the look-out point of Laguna San Pablo
Spend two hours in the famous indigenous
market of Otavalo
Continue to the beautiful volcanic crater-lake
Cuicocha, short walk
Visit a sacred waterfall, comunidad la Cascada
de Peguche, for the local indigenous communities
