| DAY
1: Departing at 8:00 am, we will travel south
for approximately 5 or 6 hours by private transportation
to the community of Guarhualla. Upon arriving we will
set up our camp which sits at 3,800 meters in altitude.
DAY
2: After breakfast we will leave Guarhualla
and begin trekking to Plaza pamba, a 5 or 6 hour walk
depending on conditions and stops in local communities
and along the way to observe plants, animals, beautiful
valleys, and rivers. Reaching the highest point at 4,200
meters, we will then descend to our next base camp for
dinner and rest.
DAY
3: Our next destination, known as ‘The
Beaches,’ sits at 3,900 meters and will be our
last new base camp.
DAY
4: Today we will pack up our camp and begin
the return trek to base camp Plaza pamba. If the conditions
permit, we should be able to see Mt. Sangay in route.
Upon arriving we will prepare dinner and set up camp.
DAY
5: After breakfast we will return to our first
base camp, Guarhualla, walking for 4 or 5 hours. Upon
arriving at the camp, we will drive to Riobamba and
rest there for the night or return directly to Quito
if desired.
NOTE:
The Sangay trek can be completed in 5 to 6 days depending
on the preference of our clients. The amount of time
depends on the physical condition of each person and
his or her ability to trek at high altitudes. We will
return to Quito at an appropriate time considering the
conditions as well.
