SANGAY (trekking)

5 to 6 DAYS

DAY 1: Departing at 8:00 am, we will travel south for approximately 5 or 6 hours by private transportation to the community of Guarhualla. Upon arriving we will set up our camp which sits at 3,800 meters in altitude.

DAY 2: After breakfast we will leave Guarhualla and begin trekking to Plaza pamba, a 5 or 6 hour walk depending on conditions and stops in local communities and along the way to observe plants, animals, beautiful valleys, and rivers. Reaching the highest point at 4,200 meters, we will then descend to our next base camp for dinner and rest.

DAY 3: Our next destination, known as ‘The Beaches,’ sits at 3,900 meters and will be our last new base camp.

DAY 4: Today we will pack up our camp and begin the return trek to base camp Plaza pamba. If the conditions permit, we should be able to see Mt. Sangay in route. Upon arriving we will prepare dinner and set up camp.

DAY 5: After breakfast we will return to our first base camp, Guarhualla, walking for 4 or 5 hours. Upon arriving at the camp, we will drive to Riobamba and rest there for the night or return directly to Quito if desired.

NOTE: The Sangay trek can be completed in 5 to 6 days depending on the preference of our clients. The amount of time depends on the physical condition of each person and his or her ability to trek at high altitudes. We will return to Quito at an appropriate time considering the conditions as well.
